Khadem Nursery was founded in 1940 by late Mr. Habib Khadem in
Tehran. It first set about producing outdoor ornamental plants
and cut flowers such as gladiolus , roses, tulip, etc.
Gradually, along with putting up greenhouses , plants like
cyclamen persicum were also added to the previous lines In1962
production of out - of - season cut flowers and ornamental
plants in glass and automatic greenhouses started .In 1975 it
was decided that production should be narrowed down to a few
lines only. It
was at this time that Mr. Mojtaba Khadem started his cooperation
with his father . In 1976 the business embarked on a plan to
grow anthurium in fully automatic greenhouses. Towards this end
prefabricated greenhouses were bought from Italy and young
anthurium plants were imported from Holland .

In
1980 production of indoor ornamental plants such as croton,
dieffenbachia, etc. in a surface area of about one hectares
started , and the 200,000 plants produced annually were supplied
to the domestic and foreign markets. Anthuriums produced here
account for 60% of the country’s anthurium production ,and
,enjoying qualities of international standard , are mostly
exported to foreign countries.
They come in more then 50 varieties and take up about 2 hectares
of the firm`s greenhouse space . Carnations are the second major
product of this establishment and every year , by importing new
varieties from Holland ,2,500,000 cut flowers are obtained from
200,000 plants. Another 2 hectares of greenhouse space has also
been devoted to growing sterlitzia , and more than one hundred
thousand stems of orchid phalanopsis as cut flowers are also
produced here during the year.
As of the year 2001 the firm has started
cultivating gerberas for cut flowers, whose annual yield has
been estimated at 500,000 stems .
